Slovakia eliminates defending champs Italy, advances

With the win, Slovakia not only advances to the round of 16, but eliminates the Italians, who didn't pick up a single win in the group stage after winning the Cup in 2006 in Germany.

Italy, which finishes in last in Group F, is the fourth defending champion to be knocked out in the group stage. Paraguay was held to a scoreless draw with New Zealand on Thursday to win the group, while Slovakia earned the runner-up spot.
